Professor Coppola specializes in
music of the nineteenth century and her interests
include genre studies, musical borrowing, and the
overlap of scholarly and performance issues. Her
work has been published in 19th-Century Music, The
Journal of the Society for Textual Scholarship, and
Teaching Music. She has presented research papers
at national and international conferences (the American
Bach Society, the International Interdisciplinary
Conference of the Society for Textual Scholarship),
as well as at chapter meetings of the American Musicological
Society. In addition to the Ph.D. in historical musicology
(City University of New York), Prof. Coppola earned
the M.M. in piano performance from the Manhattan
School of Music, where her major teacher was Seymour
Lipkin. With Lucy Morganstern, she performs duo repertoire
for piano and violin.
